Health - Tip of the Month
After the holidays we all want to get back on the health track. We've eaten more than normal and most likely the wrong types of food. Most commonly we set new goals or resolutions to get us to stop all those unhealthy habits. In our overzealous way, we decide to immediately stop doing everything 'wrong' that we have been doing. Unfortunately, our bodies have already become adapted to those new (even if unhealthy) practices and they are not going to just change into something different overnight. It takes time.
Rather than set unrealistic goals, start with one thing at a time. Look at all the things you were doing that you know you shouldn't and start with the most unhealthy one first. Maybe you loaded up on the sugar. Maybe you ate more rich foods than normal. Maybe you consumed too much alcohol. Maybe you just didn't exercise. Whatever it is, you know which item needs revising. Making healthy changes little by little will enable you to actually create new and healthy habits again.
One great way I like to think of changing eating habits is to add in the 'good' food rather than always focusing on getting rid of the 'bad' food. By adding in you feel like you are giving yourself positive things rather than taking something away from yourself. Although this sounds obvious, often it is not.
When we take food away from ourselves, our subconscious will feel deprived. With that comes the overwhelming feeling of just saying to heck with getting healthy! Or worse, we end up eating even more of what we are trying to avoid! When we give ourselves those good foods, that same subconscious feels rewarded. Along with that feeling of reward, we actually start to eat more and more healthy things and actually start to crowd out the bad foods. You will be amazed at the great results this difference in perception actually makes.
So give it a try. You and your body just might like the results!
Happy and healthy New Year!
